In recent years, with the full liberalization of the Chinese society and the rapiddevelopment of the market economy, the traditional social form of civil society whichoriginated in Western countries and had a long history began to take root in China.Irreversible rise of civil society had a profound influence on Chinese society. On theone hand, it wakes up peoples’ awareness of their rights. People began to pursue avariety of life styles and values, which was conductive to all-round development ofindividuals and social progress; On the other hand, due to the lack of effectiveguidance, confusion often occurs because of a lack of goal-oriented in the buildprocess of Chinese civil society, which aggravated the conflicts between the civilsociety and the traditional society. After nearly a century of exploration anddevelopment of the ideological and political education in China, a wealth ofexperience has been accumulated to guide and regulate peoples’ ideas and concepts.Then, what is the relationship between the ideological and political education and theconstruction of the civil society in China? Whether it can be an effective tool to buildChinese civil society as a guide? The questions became real problems which theideological and political educators had to face to. This article is based on such atheme.Started with the basic theories and concepts of civil society, this paper discussesthe background of the rise of Chinese civil society, Chinese civil society’s currentstatus, and the role and challenges ideological and political education in this moment.Trying to figure out the way in which ideological and political education standardizedthe construction of Chinese civil society.This paper consists of five parts. The first part describes the significance of thisstudy, the current status of research in this field and the innovation of this paper. In thesecond part, development course and related concepts of the theory of civil societyhave been expounded. In the third part, the author indicates the current developmentof the civil society as well as the challenges that it takes to the ideological andpolitical education, and explain the link between the two. Part IV analyzes thesignificance of the ideological and political education for the construction of civilsociety in China. Last part discusses the value of the ideological and politicaleducation on the background of the rise of civil society. This study is conducive totheoretical innovation of the ideological and political education in the new era, andprovides a new perspective for the study of the development of the ideological andpolitical education in the context of civil society.
