Tan Kah Kee is a well-known entrepreneur, educator, overseas Chinese patriotic and philanthropist. He was born in the late Qing Dynasty, a time when China was in troubled times, invaded by outside powers and corrupted in domestic political, our country was weak and poor, and people lived a poor life.He, at his17, had to be forced to leave his hometown and go to run business, where he started from scratch. But he, with great patriotism and missed everything in China, in the early times, he funded the Democratic Revolution, then he actively raised money and supported the recovery of his hometown Fujian after the corrupted Qing Dynasty was overthrown by Revolution. At the beginning of the establishment of the Republic of China, he shouldered the responsibility of Chinese and returned to home devoting to the education to make our country powerful. He set up the huge scale Jimei school and known as the strong south of Xiamen University. Besides, during the war, as the leader of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, he tried every effort to raise money and material to help people in the China, so without the great contribution of these people, China couldn’t win the victory of the War. When in1949, the People’s Republic of China was founded, Tan Kah Kee returned to settle in, participated Political Consultative Conference, continued commitment to education and other charitable public welfare.This article will focus on the study of Tan’s charitable activities, charity thought and the way of operation of his charitable activities. Which can not only make an objective and justice comment on the contribution Tan made in his hometown Fujian and the transformation of philanthropy in modern China, discussing the important role the overseas played on the development of philanthropy, but also exerted a positive reality significance on the development of the modern philanthropy.The thesis all includes seven parts, the introduction, body, conclusions and so on.The introduction mainly introduces the significance of the topic and the value, the present research situation and problems in related field, research ideas and the innovation and lack of this thesis.The first chapter analyzes the reason why Tan contributed his life to charity from his family education, Include personal reason and the reality of China and abroad.The second chapter describes the charitable activities that he practice in his lifetime, which mainly focused on the charitable education he initiated in his hometown and colony; charitable patriotic help during the War and other welfares.The third chapter analyzes his charitable ideas based on industry which nurtured education in turn and the idea that charity should practice before people became rich and the chanritable concept of valuing education and willing of donation. Raising funds by himself to set up education foundation and public offering charity and relief are his way of operation in charity. His philanthropy has the nature of the public service model and persistent feature public service activities.The fourth chapter summarizes Tan Kah Kee status and influence in the history of modern China Charity.
