Multi-ethnic Village:Ethnic Difference And Community Identity

In China’s vast land located in many different kinds of villages. There is such a kind of village among them. It has multiple ethnic groups and cultural identity systems, it known as the multi-ethnic village by many nationalities. In this kind of village not only relates to the relationship between villagers and village which like the common village, and has the ethnic factor.Eventually, it formed a kind of interaction between Villagers, Ethnic group and village. The cultural difference caused by ethnic factors acts on the village community through affecting the villager’s psychological struture, value choice and behavior orientation. It also raises a challenge to the village governance and integration.Rural development and national harmony are the important problems which concerned by our party and the country. The research on multi-ethnic villages includes these two issues.so it has great practical significance.This thesis selects a village inhabited by the huis and the hans which in the midwest of Hebei Province, trying to explore the interactive relationship between the ethnic difference,cultural identity and community identity through the field survey method. It takes the following issues as the logical clue.Firstly,where are the ethnic difference in? It is mainly to reveal the essence of the ethnic difference. Secondly,what is the impact of ethnic difference? It expounds the community identity status which under ethnic difference. Thirdly, What caused these effects?This thesis designed four chapters according to the above logic clue.The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly is academic literature review and introdution of the case village. The second chapter chooses ethnic culture as the breakthrough point, outlining the cultural difference between the Hui nationality and Han nationality in the case village. There are two types of cultural identity system in the village which due to the ethnic difference, even if the two ethnic’s culture also has adjustment and fusion in the process of interaction,but it is only reflected in the level of physical phenomenon,the essence is still the" cultural personality". The theme of the third chapter is that the community identity caused by the difference of cultural identity. It produces two conclusions through investigating the villagers’approval to community authority, the participation in village affairs and the relation network of the village. First,the community identity of Hui nationality and Han nationality are consistent. Second,the community identity of the villagers has transcend the ethnic identity. The fourth chapter analysis the conclusions of the third chapter,trying to find the reasons. It probes into the reasons why the two ethnic groups that have different cultural identity can achieve consistent community identity from macroscopic perspective of the nation,mid-scopic perspective of the village and micro perspective of the villagers.
