Education of shaping of and cultivating ideal citizens in the West has a longhistory and strong tradition. As an objective historical phenomenon, Civic educationis an existence which is born and accompanied with citizens. From the generatedbackground of Rousseau’s theory of civic education, via the way of logical analysis,the author do a systematically study on it.This text stretches the research on the logical framework of Rousseau’s civiceducation theory from four parts.In the first part, the author describes the generated background of Rousseau’stheory of civic education based on which the author proposes that Rousseau’s theoryof civic education was impacted by the ancient Greek thinkers Plato and Aristotle.The author pointes out that Rousseau lived in the special period of the WesternEnlightenment, so his civic education theory was branded with the mark of themodern civic education ideas.In the second part, the author analyzes the content of Rousseau ’s theory of civiceducation and pointes out that Rousseau leads to the concept of the natural person bythe start assumption of natural state. Via analyzing the characteristics of a naturalperson, the author proposes his concerns about the "alienation" of the natural person.The author says that the way to resolve disputes of this alienation is to develop newnatural person-citizen and then puts forward the ultimate goal of Rousseau ’s theoryof civic education is to build a moral community.In the third part, the author analyzes the ways to realize Rousseau’s civiceducation which mainly consists of three aspects. The first aspect is to cultivate civicrecognition of the moral community by resorting to the general will. The secondaspect is to develop the patriotic feelings of the citizens and the main form is publiceducation. The third aspect is to resort to the more advanced form-civil religion.Finally in the fourth part, the author makes fair comment to the Rousseau’stheory of civic education and pointes out its impact on the French Revolution, onthe later thinkers and on the Late Qing Dynasty of China. Based on all above, theauthor analyzes the theory’s revelation to China.
