Globalization from the economic field rapidly expands its’effects on the culture, politics, education and other fields. In the context of globalization, increasing international education exchange activities promote mutual understanding and communication between different nations and cultures. The activities of international education exchange organizations, non-government and non-profit organizations in this field do much help to push forward the development and cooperation of international education. The international education exchange institutes in America enjoy a long history; have rich experiences and extensive research. They also do a variety of activities which influence the process of education internationalization.This thesis selects3institutions on behalf of American international educational exchange agencies to carry out the research, and these are Institute of International Education (IIE), Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), Association of International Educators (NAFSA). The introduction states the reasons of why choose this topic, the research status at home and abroad. This section also defines the research problems and concepts as well as research methods. Moreover, the last part of this section introduces the innovations and difficulties for completing this thesis.The content of Chapter2to Chapter4introduces IIE, CIEE and NAFSA, describes the aspects of their history, organization management, main activities and academic research. Since the establishment, these institutions are developing rapidly, so as to the scope of their programs. In addition, they provide international education consulting to people in different countries. Furthermore, they do academic researches based on their real practices, and share experiences of best practice with others. In this way, these institutes make much contribution to promote the exchange of people and information worldwide.Upon the content of last3chapters, Chapter5summarizes the characteristics of the international education exchange institutions in America, indicating that they set clear missions and purposes as guidelines of their daily work; the scope of their activities includes overseas exchange programs, international education services, conferences researches as well as offering suggestions to help government decision-making; they are developing with specialized management and stable funding source, also maintaining close relations with American government.The6th chapter illustrates the revelation of this study, discusses in this century of increasingly frequent international education exchanges, we can draw lessons from the developing process of American international education exchange institutions to support similar organizations progress in China, such as the expansion of partners, encouraging the participation of local community, building international office network and so on.
