| In knowledge economy age, the workplace has become an important platform for the development and growing to a modern woman. How to enter the workplace will be the first and important step for their career. How to choose a job, what job should be chosen and what should be not, which factor helps or limits their professional choices, how these factors influence and restraint each other, what’s the effect to their professional choice from the combined effect of these factors, how to help the women play their strengths to evade the shortcomings in order to get satisfied jobs. All of those are the problems (that) the paper is going to solve.This paper chooses the women who received the higher or university education and whose age between23-34to be the group of my study (in this paper we can call them college-educated women or knowledge female). Through the in-depth structured interviews and participant observations, this paper want to describe their present situation of professional choice and analysis the barriers for the group career choice. Finally, this paper wants to construct a model of the group career choice. Through the analysis of my interview material, this paper divided the factors which affect the female career choice into three aspects:individuals, society, organization. How it affects young college-educated women’s career choices manifested in these respects:first, the lady who has a good background (more knowledge/richer family/stronger power and so on) and good self-efficacy will have more chances to choose better jobs; Second, social expectations for woman in the traditional society, including being a good wife and a competent mother, make the group tends to choose the job which has less challenge and worse development prospects. In other words, the group have a low achievement motivation and expectation in work; Third, the masculine corporate culture and no excellent professional women model make the business organization exaggerate the negative effect of female sex, which make the professional women face occupational gender segregation and sexism when they do their professional choice. Further, through constructing the model of the young college-educated women’s career choices, the paper think that the aspects in the same dimensions are interact, and all the different dimensions also affect each other. Then, these all aspects and dimensions have an influence on their professional choice. Finally, the paper think that the female individual should enhance their self-efficacy,breakthrough in self bondage, make a good career plan; Society should build an equal and sound macro environment and system security; The business organization should get rid of the discrimination in employing and provide vocational guidance for the professional women. The ultimate goal of the paper wants to help the young college-educated women resolve the confusion and difficulties in professional choice, and makes the group have a good foundation for their professional development. |
