The effect of mother tongue in foreign language learning has been thetraditional subject of psychological research; it is also a focus of the secondlanguage acquisition study. The effect is known as the transfer of mothertongue in the second language acquisition.The effect is divided into two parts: negative and positive effect. Inpsychology, positive effect is called positive transfer; negative effect is callednegative transfer, i.e., interference. It refers to the knowledge, skills, learningmethods which have been acquired before interfere the acquisition of newknowledge and new skills. The study of negative language transfer has alsoundergone some stages include error analysis, contrastive analysis and mothertongue transfer and inter-language theory and etc. The people have furtherunderstanding on the mother tongue transfer, and it promotes the developmentof foreign language teaching.In the past, the researchers usually study mother tongue negative transfers(mother tongue interference) about the adult. But with the development ofsociety, the students study English earlier. It is worth becoming an importantsubject that How the teacher make their teaching effective which the contentseasily effected by negative transfer. But up to now, it has hardly an analysisabout the content in primary school teaching material which is easy to causethe negative transfer of the mother tongue. Therefore, the author has studiedand analyzed PEP primary English students’ book, and then comprehensivelysummarized and classified the contents and their countermeasures which iseasy to cause negative transfer in PEP primary English students’ book.The researcher reviews the current researches done by some experts athome and abroad to sort out the research summary. It can provide a referencefor my thesis. I found out the contents are easily affected by negative transfer in PEP primary school students’ book through observation in class. It providessome important information. The researcher interviewed some Englishteachers and investigators at a primary school in Hohhot, and timely recordedthe interviews ’ viewpoints, opinions. At last, the author studies the textbookthrough content analysis method.The contents which are easy to cause the negative transfer of the mothertongue are divided into five aspects through the author’s experience and theresults of interview. The English alphabet pronunciation and writingphonetics(confusion between English pronunciation and Americanpronunciation,Vowels and consonants phonetic pronunciation,stress andintonation,long and short vowels); Vocabulary(The negative transfer ofmeaning,The word concept generalization,The word unconscious deletion,Word combination,The usage of Prepositions,Lexical collocation);Grammar(Word order,The use of conjunctions in a sentence,The use ofarticles in a sentence,The use of nouns in a sentence,The use of pronouns ina sentence,verbs and tense); pragmatic failure(Because of the East andWest cultural differences so that the pragmatic failure happened)。Finally, this author put forward the countermeasures of negative transferof mother tongue from two directions (the teaching and psychology)combined with own teaching experience.
