Formative assessment is a valuable guidance by the activities, we must first transform the ideas of evaluation and the new curriculum in the course of carrying forward the evaluation of teachers and pay attention to personal subjective value, including personal development, personal incentive and self-realization, because respect and self-actualization is the need of the people’s lasting power, is also the need of the individual teacher. On the theoretical basis of behaviorism, cognitivism and the theory of self-regulation, formative assessment lays emphasis on the diversity of questionnaires and testing forms, contents and it aims at promoting and providing decision-making information. Formative assessment about students’ English proficiencies is important for instructional decision making and potential special educational decisions. However, the small number of studies evaluating teachers’feedback is limited methodologically and has not yet answered the important questions related to teachers’judgments. Thus, in the process of the formative assessment we should give more attention from the angle of view of the teachers, fully respect the subjective status of the teachers, set up the humanized assessment view, and pay attention to in the evaluation of the students’ self-regulation, we use the method of questionnaires, testing-methods and so forth to prove that the certain knowledge accumulation is to be formed on the basis of self-regulation of the students, the more knowledge they have, the more proficient skills they will become, and the ability is to help the development of the students’themselves. But the accumulation of knowledge is the premise of the ability of skills, and at the same time the level of the ability restricts the knowledge of accumulating, high and low. So in training students’different abilities of self-study must notice when knowledge and ability simultaneously. With all the work done, the thesis comes to a conclusion that the study has proved that formative assessment is effective in strengthening students’English performance, cultivating the students’self-regulation and helping students achieve better performance.
