| Game is the natural way of life for children as well as a notable social phenomena. Game can promote children’s cognitive development, emotional development, social development, and therefore is of great value and significance. The combination of games and teaching is inevitable. The game fits the nature of children and it also adapts to the development of the children’s personality whereas the ultimate goal of education is to promote the development of human being. The new English curriculum standard for primary school advocates to stimulate students’interest and foster students’self-confidence. The game has such a function. The game is an innovative approach and philosophy. It can be used in teaching not only as a means and method, but also as a spirit and philosophy which is supposed to be throughout the teaching activities.Since the implementation of the new curriculum reform, English classroom teaching has put greater emphasis onthe cultivation of the students’learning interests, and the game has been widely used as an effective way in primary school English classroom teaching. However, some problems have emerged. The English teaching activities have been carried out in the form of games, however, was the spirit of games present while they were being carried out? What is the present situation of the games used in primary school English teaching? Around these problems, under the guidance of the concept of the new curriculum standards, based on the theory about the game, the writer explores the game activities in today’s primary school English teaching in the practical application, analyzes the current situation from the point view of theory and tries to construct a set of effective strategies and improve the combination of game and English teaching in primary school.The study aims to advocate the spirit of the game in primary school English teaching. Through the research and analysis, the main conclusions of the study are as follows:Firstly, the games used in today’s primary school English teaching game mainly have six problems:The design of the rules of the game is too complex, and therefore lacks operability. The form of the game is too monotonous; lacks innovation. The English class using games is out of order; lacks of control. Cooperation between the students lacks effectiveness. The reward is overflown, lacks incentive. The evaluation method in the process of the game lacks universality and diversity.Secondly, the influencing factors of the games using in primary English teaching mainly include four major factors:elementary students’characteristics, primary school English teachers’quality, school curriculum arrangement, and the traditional Chinese culture.Thirdly, the game strategies in the primary school English teaching are constructed mainly in terms of the design of the game, the implementation of the game, and the evaluation of the game. The content of the game design should be purposeful and inspiring. The form of game design should be diversified and innovative. The Game design should pay attention to the process of participation and cooperation. The design of the game scene should bear openness and experience. The process management during the game should be timely and tactful. The evaluation language during the game should be incentive and targeted. The evaluation approach during the game should be diversified and comprehensive. |
