Game is children’s favourite activity, and is also the effective method to stimulate their learning interest. Educator Chen Heqin said:Pupils like playing from birth and take games as their lives.Teaching with games could cater to students’physical and psychological characteristic and arouse students’ learning motivation and interest.The aim of applying games is to serve teaching,and games should be closely related to teaching contents.In English teaching, games can transform the boring language learning to the lively and interesting activities.They get a lot of fun in English learning.Meanwhile,games create plenty of language communication scenarios to communicate with others,students will improve their spoken English through these gaming activities.To testify the games have positive impact on students’ language ability of the formation, the author chose two parallel nature classes90students from Guangming Primary School in Anshan Liaoning Province for an experiment, which lasted for4months from September in2011. In the experimental class, the teacher taught English with games while the same teacher in the control class used the traditional teaching method to teach English. In order to make the data validly,the author invited two colleagues to observe the teaching atmosphere and students’learning situation of two classes. From the observation,the researcher analyzed how the teacher taught English with games and how the pupils learned by game. The oral exam was given once a month to testify in spoken English whether there was significant different between two classes. The data collected from questionnaires and interviews testify whether games in English teaching improve students’English learning and language competence.Findings indicate:teaching with games, as an effective teaching method, can not only inspire students’interest in English learning,but also can develop their spoken English and lay a solid foundation for the further study.Meanwhile,it is suitable for English teaching in primary schools and worthy to be promoted.
