Cooperative learning is a series of teaching strategies designed to promote thestudents’ mutual assistance and cooperation to achieve common learning goals andoffer rewards based on the groups overall performance. This system basically workson the division of labor between its team members, the common use of resources,interdependence and their mutual support to learn. A large number of researchers andeducators have proven with sufficient experiments that, under carefully organized andcooperative learning elements in the form of teaching, cooperative learning can resultin improved interaction motivation and responsibility. In recent years, with theadvance of technology and innovative means of modern distance education, theapplication of virtual learning environments in distance education has greatlyenhanced. Distance education has facilitated innovative means to include cooperativelearning in virtual pedagogical settings, especially in the environment of adults’distance education.This article, based on18weeks data collected from169adult students at WuxiRadio and Television University. Comparing online data of pre-test and post-test fromstudents in experimental class and control class, my paper tries to discuss theeffectiveness of cooperative principle applied to the learning outcomes of adultdistance English education. The results show that the theories and methods ofcooperative learning are in line with the characteristics of adult learners, and can helpstrengthen the link between students, improve their motivation, create a betterlearning atmosphere and improve self-reflective ability and quality. Thus distanceeducation will partially alleviate students study and work pressure, and solve adults’conflict between learning and working.This study also investigates cooperative learning applied to the learning effect ofdifferent ages and different genders, based on the results of which attempts to explorethe advantages and disadvantages of the adult distance English cooperative education,in order to better adult learners performance and improve the learning efficiency oftheir study.
