The issue of population has been the fundamental factor influencing the social and economic development in our country. From the1970s to the end of the last century, people focused on the problem of population size. With the sustained implementing of the population policy and the rapid development of social economy, population urbanization has swept across the country, and brought about great changes in population structure, which gradually arouses the attention of many academics. The Korean nationality lives in the northeast of China. From1980s onwards, it has experienced an accelerated advancement of urbanization, modernization, and population migration. Under the background of high population mobility, the population structure of the Korean nationality has also undergone drastic transformation. Doing research on the transformation of the Korean nationality (between1990and2010) through analyzing the process of urbanization contributes to a systematic understanding of the features of the structural transformation of the Korean Nationality’s population and the inherent critical factor leading to the transformation, and moreover, provides prospective judgment of the population issues of our country. The thesis adopts the dynamic structural perspective and reveals to the readers the changes of demographic structure of the Korean nationality based on the data of the Korean ethnic group’s population in the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Nationwide Population Census. Besides, it also analyzes the crucial element--urbanization--leading to the structural transformation of the Korean nationality, predicts transformation and problems of population structure in our country, and as a result, finds that population urbanization in our country will have the feature of "rapid compression" in the next two decades and turns into the population reproduction of "reduced type" with the stagnation of population growth. The demographic structures the thesis describes include population natural structure (age and gender structure), social and economic structure (education and culture, employment, and marriage structure), and regional structure (administrative division, and urban and rural structure). The thesis is made up of five parts:The first part is an introduction, which explicates the background and significance of this research, summarizes the related references, explains the perspective and method adopted and defines the research contents. The second part explains the concept of population structure, elaborates the related theories of urbanization and population development, and concludes that urbanization influences the population growth and quality. The third part describes the transformation and features of the population structure of the Korean nationality, including the size, the natural structure (age and gender structure), the social and economic structure (education and culture, employment, and marriage structure), and the regional structure (administrative division, and urban and rural structure). The forth part analyzes the critical factor contributing to the transformation of the population structure of the Korean nationality—urbanization and concludes that it has an all-round and significant impact on the changes of its population structure. The fifth part is the conclusion, which generalizes the main features and influence factors of the transformation of the population structure of the Korean nationality, and also summarizes the concomitant problems. In the end, it touches on the current situation and tendency of the population structure in our country.
