Teachers’teaching motivation is the inherent fundamental power to promote their teaching. In teaching activities, the specific forms of teaching motivation are teaching enthusiasm, teaching attitude and teaching behavior. It has a big impact not only on activating, maintaining and adjusting teachers’teaching, but also on students’learning motivation to a great extent. English teachers, especially senior high school English teachers, play an essential role in the entire teaching field. However, the present studies from domestic and overseas have mainly focused on the learning motivation of students, but few researches have been conducted on teachers’teaching motivation. Under this research background, this study applies the questionnaire method to investigate teaching motivation of183English teachers from six senior high schools in Henan province, and it attempts to explore the current situation of senior high school English teachers’teaching motivation and its influential factors. Thus, education administrators be able to understand the current situation of senior high school English teachers’teaching motivation and draft relevant policies in terms of the major influential factors, thereby improve senior high school English teachers’teaching motivation further.This study makes an investigation based on following three key problems:(1) What is the current situation of teaching motivation of senior high school English teachers in China?(2) How does teaching motivation change with their gender, age, teaching year, educational background and school type?(3) Which are the main influential factors that affect their teaching motivation?In view of the current situation of teaching motivation of senior high school English teachers, this thesis analyzes the difference among teachers with different characteristics and discusses its influential factors.The results show that teaching motivation of senior high school English teachers in China is strong. These teachers are very responsible, conscientious, hard-working and enthusiastic. Meanwhile, there is a significant difference in senior high school English teachers’teaching motivation with different genders, ages and school types, but there is no significant difference in their teaching motivation with different teaching years and educational backgrounds. The main influential factors of senior high school English teachers’teaching motivation are personal and work factors, namely the sense of achievement, the attitude toward teaching, the wage, the promotion prospect, teaching experience, the right to participate in making important decisions, the working environment and the chances to get further education.Based on this, the author provides some constructive suggestions for educational sectors, schools and teachers to strengthen teaching motivation of senior high school English teachers.
