For now, the status quo of the Chinese teaching in primary and secondary schools aretroubling. The teaching efficiency is very low. Student’s Chinese ability is largely deviatedfrom the new curriculum standards. As the main part of Chinese teaching, reading teachinghas a direct effect on the level of Chinese teaching quality. So, reading teaching is the first tobe innovated.This article has attempted to start with the essence of reading teaching in basic education.To explore cultivating objectives of Chinese reading teaching, analyze the existent issues andfind out the key point for integrating language teaching into Chinese reading teaching. Theauthors suggested that the phenomenon of "high consume but low effect" in Chinese readingteaching is because of the lack of a clear understanding of the essence of reading teaching.Reading teaching is too structured, but ignores the nature of the problem. Through theresearch of this paper it shows that reading teaching should be focused on the improvement intheir language proficiency. Reading teaching is mainly the process of learning language. Theteacher should help students improve their abilities to use language, and to express theirthoughts in good logic and fluent language. And in the course of the cultivation of the abilityto apply languages comprehensively, realizing educational goals include literacy, thinkingability etc.About the research of the essence of reading teaching, it starts with learning the lessonsof the traditional Chinese teaching. Next, it is about the view of teaching the Chineselanguage from the angle of "speech" and the content of language ability. Thirdly, it analyzesand builds the view of teaching language in theory. This paper ends with suggestions forteaching practices in terms of language teaching.During the researching, the author mainly takes the method of combining the documentsresearch with comparative research.
