The problem of employment of college graduates has been the focus for higher education and thewhole society. On the one hand, it is because of college students’ special status. College students carry thefamily and society’s dual expectations, and the job is the beginning of campus life to social life, which is ofgreat significance; on the other hand, college students are faced with a severe employment situation. Sincethe college expansion in1999, China’s higher education gradually changes from elite education to populareducation, which makes the number of college students who are facing employment issues continues toincrease. In addition, the international financial crisis continues to affect, bringing a severe employmentsituation for the college students.Employment is related to the nation’s development and people’s well-being, and it has attractedtremendous attention both at home and abroad, especially the employment of college students. In theexisting research results, most scholars discuss the employment problem of college students fromeconomics, sociology, management science, policy science and other multi-disciplinary perspective. Whilein foreign countries, they have formed an impeccable theory of employment and employment guidancemethods. All of these have provided a useful model for my writing. This article studies the employment situation of contemporary college students, and is based on theprevious theoretical results and the research methods. The paper employs methods of literature research, content analysis, individual-case analysis and so on comprehensively in order to guide students to changethe employment ideas and improve employment ability. It takes the phenomenon of Harbin Undergraduatecompetes the cleaner candidates as the starting point, and makes an in-depth analysis on the currentemployment situation. The employment environment of contemporary college students is not optimistic as a whole, and they are facing severe international and domestic situations. As a result, the current status ofcollege students highlights in the difficulty of the employment problem. However, the employmentproblem doesn’t mean that college students can’t find a job; it is just that they want specific professions, inspecific areas, and with specific compensation, etc. To be specific, the difficult employment problems aredifficult employment in big cities, within the system and well-paid jobs. If the employment problem ofcollege students doesn’t solve well, it will certainly cause bad effects for the whole society. For example, itwill waste talent resources, bring negative impact on the mainstream values of our society, and be harmfulto the long-term development of the society. Various causes lead to the current employment situation ofuniversity students, the author analyzes the causes from four aspects separately, which are the society, colleges and universities, college students and employers, and then points out that the social factor is themain reason. The inequality development between urban and rural areas and the imparity of compensationand benefits have contributed to city-guidance and system-guidance of the national policy on theemployment problem. In the last part, the author indicates that to set up a market-oriented employmentmechanism is the only way to solve the university students’ employment situation. The employmentmechanism needs to grasp the market demand firmly, and realize the combination of the governmentpromoting employment and employment guidance in universities and college students’ own choices. Thethree parts should focus on the dynamics of the market, understand the needs of market and work closelyto solve the current employment situation of college students. As a result, help the students find asatisfactory job as soon as possible.
