Yu-xiang Wu is a martial artist in the mid-Qing dynasty. He is the father of the new Wu style Tai jiquan; Wu has made a great contribution to the development of the tai chi theory with his profound martialaccomplishment and solid traditional Chinese cultural background. He is a pioneer of tai chi theoryresearch boom. However, there is limited research on Yu-Xiang Wu style tai ji quan or his theory of martialart based on the literature review. In regards to this, the author conducted a research entitled " Yu-xiang Wumartial Theory Study”.In this study, social science research methods of literature review, interview and logical analysis wereused to discuss and prove the final conclusion; topics include the formation of the Yu-xiang Wu martialTheory, thoughts and contribution, and influences to contemporary martial theory development.Yu-xiang Wu martial Theory refers to the system of ideas and thoughts developed by Wu during hislearning and creating process of martial art. Yu-xiang Wu martial art ideas and thoughts mainly remained inTaijiquan theoretical writings and literature records of his life.In the main part of the paper, the author analyzes the exogenous and endogenous factors of WuYuxiang martial theory, which concludes that the social environment and their own knowledge are reasonsfor the formation of Yu-xiang Wu martial Theory. The most important idea of Yu-xiang Wu martial Theoryis that any theory development should be based on actual martial art practicing. There is a lot of discussionof how to use martial art theories in actual learning and practice; as well as using the method of explainingthe importance and order of learning martial art theory by warfare metaphor. The idea of learning bypracticing was deeply influenced or even derived from Yen Lee style and Pu Xue theory from Qingdynasty.The core of Yu-xiang Wu martial thought is by “the technical novice" and "Daniel shi wu", thepracticing steps is feeling boxing in long-term technical practitioner, and soon make the guidance come truefrom “heart” to “body knowledge”; on the basis of reference to the rule of "utterer", and then further perfectthe theory about tai chi, formatting theoretical system and boxing frame style different others. The technicalnovice martial thoughts embody Yu-xiang Wu martial ideological concepts and principles from boxingframe, the respect such as art and so on, the fist fight pay attention to movement Aioi, art of attack and pay attention to the simple and practical use, Takenori pay attention to Germany Wu significant. These featuresnot only form the unique Wu Shi boxing theory, and formed the five schools of taijiquan and other differentstyle of boxing, establish the position of Wu Shi taijiquan. Yu-xiang Wu martial thought broadened theemergence and development of the research field, promoted the martial arts by the "oral" and thecombination of physical records, books, martial arts in the direction of the academic and the skills’development. Combined with medical guided breathing method, summed up the" thugs SaFang" and"posture" works and so on,formed the theoretical system of scientific system, created a new theory oftaijiquan research direction, thus created the new taijiquan technical schools.In contemporary society, the function of values and modes of transmission of the martial arts hasundergone tremendous change, Yu-xiang Wu martial philosophy has played a guiding role in the directionof tai chi’s study, martial arts theory building system in modern society should be taken to abandon thedialectical thinking so that it can demonstrate its due value in modern society, and under the premise of thetradition, with the attitude of science and advancing develop a new model for the spread of martial arts.Only in this way, the development of martial arts and communication can only fit the pulse of the rapiddevelopment in today’s society, to be able to stand in the world culture of the forest enduring. Therefore,this study is not only a system combing of Yu-xiang Wu martial ideology and Wu style Taijiquan, but also auseful complement to traditional Chinese culture-Contemporary tai chi theoretical research.
