The United States is recognized the science and technology country in the world. It has many of theworld first-class universities. And the American universities cultivate many outstanding talents for it. Thesuccess of universities is closely linked with the efforts of the university presidents. In the thesis, The writertries to analyze it from the internal and external factors of the American University to the personal factorsof the university presidents, by using the method of factor analysis, comparative and literature etc.Expecting to have a rational and comprehensive analysis for it, in order to have a rational and scientificunderstanding about American University president’s successful factors. So as to provide reference andenlightenment for the construction of the world first-class university in our country.This thesis is divided into four parts:The first part mainly describes the portrait of the president of American University. It contains thepublic image, standard image, the conditions and job qualification of the university presidents.The second part mainly describes the success of presidents of American University. Mainly includesthe duty of success, social success and successful personality.The third part mainly discusses the factors of the American University Presidents’ success. It includesthe social environment factors, the small environment factors which the management system of highereducation, and the factors of university president himself.The fourth part is the reference and enlightenment to our universities and university presidents.This thesis tries to analyze it with scientific, objective perspective, and puts forward some suggestions according to the actual situation of the Higher Education in our country, expecting to obtain the referenceand enlightenment for the construction of first-class universities in our country.
