The Researchofthe Career Developmenet Path Of Chinese University Presidents

The university is considered to be the lighthouse which guides the future of society, and no doubt university presidents should be the guard of this lighthouse. In the new times, the university will have more functions. Apart from teaching and researching, modern universities also shoulder the responsibilities of knowledge creation, talents cultivation and serving society. The mission of universities is also the one of university presidents. They are required be more professional to fulfill their duties. In the meantime, top universities need presidents of elite to lead. The aim of higher education in China to build some world-class universities also render the university presidents to change their outdated idea, improve their abilities and walk on the path of development of professional university presidents who are quite different with the so-called official presidents in the career development. Thus, the research of the career path of university presidents is positively meaningful.This paper uses research methods combining theories and practice, as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis to probe into different stages and factors of the career development path of our presidents of universities of211project, based on the current situation of their career. Also, this study will try to analyze characteristics of the career path of American university presidents, in order to find out the difference between them. With theories of career development related, this research will explore the occupational mobility features, occupational sports modes, career development path and career development types, and conclude what is reasonable or unreasonable in the career development path of Chinese university presidents. In this way, the paper will analyze the system reasons behind this reality and give advice to university presidents for their better career pathways.
