The distribution of higher education resources not only has a profound impacton sustainable economic and social development of countries in the world, but alsohas an important role in the core competitiveness of a country and its differentregions. Higher Education can provide the manpower, technology and otherresources for regional economic development, and regional economic developmentcan provide funding and practical issues for Higher Education.Therefore,carrying outthe research,it not only has an important theoretical significance and applicationvalue in accelerating the process of popularization of higher education in China andpromoting China’s historic transformation of the Higher Education power to a powerof higher education,but also in enhancing our core competitiveness and promotingcomprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development for economy andsociety,building a socialist harmonious society.In this paper, we use the basic theory of modern economics and thecomprehensive use of a variety of analytical methods to study the relationshipbetween the distribution of higher education resources and regional economicdevelopment.This article first analyzes the mechanism of the distribution of highereducation resources and regional economic development;then analyzes the changesin distribution of higher education resources and regional economic developmentduring1990-2009from two angles;and then uses the unit root test, cointegration test,granger causality test, as well as Cobb-Douglas production function to study therelationship between the two;finally makes the basic conclusions and policyrecommendations.the main conclusions are:Firstly,higher education are related to long-runequilibrium relationship between resource distribution and regional economicdevelopment.The eastern,central and western region of the scale of higher educationfor every expansion of a percentage point, the region will lead to gross domesticproduct (GDP) increase by1.0696percents,0.8947percents and0.9597percents;Secondly,the granger causality test shows that: one-way causal relationshipexists only between the distribution of higher education resources and regionaleconomic development;Finally,the empirical comparative analysis of the investmentin human resources on the contribution of economic development show:manpower investment for education has a positive correlation on GDP. The manpower ofEducation has a regional characteristics on the contribution rate of economicdevelopment, but does not completely under the influence of region.The main innovations are as follows: Firstly,based on the economics ofeducation, regional economics and development economics theory, this paperanalyzes the relationship between the distribution of higher education resources andregional economic development and their mechanism.Secondly,using relevantstatistical data about distribution of higher education resources and regionaleconomic development of1990-2009, this paper examines the relationship betweenthe distribution of higher education resources and regional economic development inChina.
