The thesis is about the application of brainstorming strategy in English writing teaching in high school, which aims at verifying its feasibility and effectiveness. To begin with, the author identifies the advantage of this strategy with constructivism theory, schema theory and communicative competence theory. Furthermore, brainstorming strategy was applied in writing teaching in the experimental class, while the traditional product-oriented teaching method was employed in the control class. During the four-month experiment, by the means of pre-test, post-test, interviews and questionnaires, the author proved that not only the students of experimental class made great progress in academic performance, they also aroused their writing interest and enhanced their writing skills and ability to design proper layout. Based on the discussions above, the thesis draws a conclusion that the application of brainstorming strategy in progress-oriented teaching has a positive effect on improving students’writing ability.
