| Nowadays, English has been used by more and more people as a kind of internationallanguage due to the development of the economy. English listening which accountsfor45%also plays a very important role in communicative activities. From theperspective of China’s national conditions we can know that students need to paymore attention to listening comprehension because it accounts for20%in the collegeentrance examination. So, students have the urge to improve their listening levels andenhance their English abilities in order to meet the social demand and have a solidfoundation. There exist many ways to improve English listening.There also existmany kids of listening materials. This paper mainly discuss how to use American TVshows to improve English listening abilities of high school students. Input hypothesisand Affective Filter Hypothesis were chose as the theoretical guidance for the wholepaper. Then the author conducted a research on the relevance between American TVshows and listening. By asking some students about how to use American TV showsto improve listening abilities, the author found the factor that can influence Englishlistening including materials and listening themselves. Lots of examples in DesperateHousewives are showed to provide practical learning methods for teachers andstudents in senior high school to help them accumulate phonetics, grammar,vocabulary and enhance shills of top-down and bottom-up. Considering thelimitations of students in time and effort when they learn English under thebackground of the college entrance examination, the author put forward somereasonable suggestions about the time and frequency when they watch American TVshows. The innovation of this paper is that is combined American TV shows andEnglish listening which is different from the traditional listening in classroom. Thismethod opened a new road for students learning English with fun. |
