Volleyball has a history of more than100years since its existence in1895. It has developed into a worldwide and popular sport among common people though in the beginning, it was just a game or an entertainment for a few people. During1980s, volleyball was written as a glorious record in sporting field because Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team won championship five years in a row, which makes it the only sport that won world championship in "three major ball games"(namely, basketball, football, and volleyball). Therefore, more and more individuals participate in this sport, and love this game. For a long time, the cultivation of our athletic talents has formed a mode of independent operating, separating of teaching and physical training, and randomness. This mode had once cultivated a large quantities of top athletes for our country and made a great contribution in boosting social civilization and promoting national flourishing and fame. But this old mode can no longer meet the need of the social development, with the gradual establishment of socialist marketing economy, competing sports developing toward pluralization and marketization, the ever-enhancing of social economy and culture, and the ever-changing of people’s value. With the progressing of the time, it is imperative that teaching and cultivating system of excellent athlete reserve be reformed. This requires that we should do a profound research on strategies for cultivating athlete reserve and set up a mode of cultivating excellent reserve based on theories and practices connecting educational quality and physical training.Conventional school plays a crucial part in China’s training system. With primary and middle schools as its carrier, conventional school is a ordinary training mode for cultivating excellent athlete reserve, which makes it a perfect combination of competing sports and schooling sports.Based on this, this thesis researches and analyzes on the current situation of the conventional volleyball project----primary school volleyball in Taiyuan, with cultivating primary school volleyball talent reserve as a cut-in point, considering objective and subjective influence elements, and China’s current cultivating system for athlete reserve as well, to find out advantages and disadvantages.By adopting literary documentation method, questionnaire and inquiry method and mathematics statistics method, etc., this thesis researches on the current situation of the conventional volleyball project in Taiyuan----primary school volleyball teams, investigating and analyzing the current situation of primary school volleyball teams, team members, coaches, parents of team members, leaders, scientific and researching results, training funds, problems among teams, suggestions to talent reserve cultivation, which hopes to provide some theoretic base for the progress of conventional volleyball project in Taiyuan----primary school volleyball teams. The research has shown that:1. The height of primary school volleyball athletes is unreasonably ranged with those of160cm-164cm tall being vacant, which barriers primary school volleyball athletes from setting up a systematic training team.2. The height of primary school volleyball athletes shows a wave crest.3. The motivation of primary school volleyball athletes participating in volleyball training is rather definite, with most of the members taking it as an easier access to middle school.4. After-school training remains the main form of primary school volleyball athletes’ training.5. Primary school volleyball team members think that in volleyball training, their volleyball awareness, knowledge, physical condition and professional guidance are yet to be improved.6. Primary school volleyball team members have not attended many competitions, especially provincial level contests, which are few and far between. 7. The balance between learning and training has become a headache for primary school volleyball teams.8. Woman coaches constitute a large part of coaches for primary school volleyball teams and the age of the group has a tendency of being smaller and smaller. Most of them get a bachelor’s degree but few of them receive on-job training.9. The objective of most coaches leading primary school volleyball teams is to win fame and honor for their schools and coaches’training get most leaders and team members’ recognition,10. Parents of primary school volleyball team members are rather supportive to their children’s participation in volleyball teams.11. The objective of primary school volleyball team cultivating athletes is mainly based on schools’ honor, sport development and athletes’ interest.12. Primary school volleyball courts are in need, and indoor volleyball courts are in dire need.13. Coaches of primary school volleyball teams have a clear view on scientific researches. However, coaches’ published papers are countable.14. The training fund for primary school volleyball teams is insufficient.Suggestions can be made to improve this situation as follows:1. To develop Taiyuan’s conventional volleyball project----primary school volleyball in the long run, schools and coaches should set out with athletes’ fundamental interests and long-term development to figure out a way for excellent athletes’ future career.2. Scientific research on physical education can enhance practical training efficiency, improve coaches’ researching abilities, which contributes much to heighten the training level of primary school volleyball teams.3. Municipal, provincial bureau of education and folk associations should organize competitions of different scales, so should primary school volleyball teams.4. Primary schools should facilitate the construction of volleyball court halls so as to ensure the training. Meanwhile, they should also establish physical agility lab and PE materials reading room.5. Coaches and teachers should seek the balance between learning and training, to ensure athletes’cultural courses learning.6. Primary schools should further supply fund and absorb fund through multiple means.
