Thi’s study explored the influence of multi-level teaching on students Englishlearning. At the beginning, the author analysed current research situation and theresults of English multi-level teaching(EMLT) of primary school in China and abroad. This study was based on such theoretical frameworks as teach students in accordancewith their aptitude theory, optimization of teaching process theory, mastery learningtheory and zone of proximal development (ZPD) theory. And it put forward thefollowing three questions:1. What multi-level teaching strategies can we use to’promote students English learning interests?2. What multi-level teaching strategiescan we use to promote student’s English learning abilities?3. What multi-levelt’eaching strategies can we use to promote students academic achievements? The author chose Class4and Class1of Qingdao Taiping Road Primary Schoolas the objects of this study. Among them, Class4was the expeirmental class, andClass1was the control class. The experiment lasted from September2012to January2013. Firstly, the students in the experimental class were stratified according to theiracademic records and learning abilities, and then their learning needs wereinvestigated. Later, stratified teaching plans were designed according to their needs. Before and after the experiment, student’s academic records were tested, and theirlearning abilities and learning interests were investigated with questionnaires. At last, the author collected as well as analysed the data. The results show that, firstly, teachers have to stratify students scientifically, and then get to know the learning needs of different levels of students, so stratifiedlearning objectives were designed on the basis of needs. In the process of teaching, the educators should design stratified exercises, stratified homework as well asstratified evaluation. By using the above strategies, student’s English learning interests, abilities and academic achievements were improved effectively. Especially, the academic achievements of LBs and the learning interests of LCs were promotedobviously. Besides, multi-level teaching of English also helps to improve theefficiency of classroom teaching, to lighten the schoolwork burden of students, to’cultivate students good learning habits and so on.The thesis consists of five parts. The first part introduces the background, purpose and significance of the study. The second part tells the study of Englishmulti-level teaching(EMLT) of pirmary school in China and abroad, and itstheoretical framework. The third part describes the research process in Grade Four ofQingdao Taiping Road Primary School, and the research questions, subjects, instalments, expeirmental procedures, the collection and analysis of data. The fourthpart is results and discussion. And the last part contains the major findings of thestudy as well as its limitations. Moreover, it put forward the recommendations forfurther research. At last, it summairzes the whole thesis.
