Cooperative learning is a teaching theory and teaching strategic system which emerged in the classrooms of the US and other Western countries around the1970s. It was spread to China in1990s and has made substantial progress up to now. As cooperative learning is based on a unique creativity and scientific theory, it is helpful solve a series of problems in the classroom teaching and individual learning activities, and it has also made significant achievements in terms of enhancing the academic results and non-intelligence factor of the students. Cooperative learning has been commonly considered as the most important and the most successful educational reform in the recent decades. This study mainly investigates the effects of the group cooperative learning application in the oral English class of the technical secondary schools. It explores whether the teaching method of cooperative learning could improve the oral English skills, the interpersonal skills, the overall English proficiency and the personal quality of the technical secondary school students effectively.This paper consists of five chapters:The first chapter introduces the background, the objectives and the significance, the contents and the methodology of this study. The second chapter provides a definition of cooperative learning, and summarizes the theoretical studies about the cooperative learning and the oral English teaching. It introduces a few relevant theories. The third chapter describes the implementation of this experimental study. It illustrates the research design, the preparation and the practical implementation in detail. The fourth chapter analyzes the survey results and the oral test scores, which prove that the experiment achieve the cooperative learning are effective for improving the oral English skills of the students. The fifth chapter is the conclusion and discussions. It summarizes the revelation of this study on the teaching of oral English skills, and meanwhile, it also proposes some specific recommendations for improving the oral English teaching.By reviewing the relevant literatures, this study conducted a comparative experiment on the two classes of Tourism Management in Qiqihar Forestry Technical School, and then, a questionnaire survey was collected for analysis and conclusion. The results showed that group cooperative learning could help the technical secondary school students improve their oral English skills greatly, and to a certain extent, it could also enhance their communication and interpersonal skills. After the experiment, we compared the teaching method of cooperative learning with the traditional teaching method in the oral English teaching by comparing the test scores of the experimental class and control class and analyzing the answers to the open questions and the Classroom Observation Tables. The result proves that cooperative learning is a very effective teaching method and it’s feasible for improving the oral English skills and the sense of autonomous learning and the enthusiasm and the creativity of the technical secondary school students. At the same time, the author also notices that cooperative learning plays a positive role in reducing the anxiety of the students. In addition, the author summarizes the effective cooperative learning strategies, discusses the application of cooperative learning in the oral English class of the technical secondary schools, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of cooperative learning and propounds to conduct effective cooperative learning in the oral English class, so as to promote educational reform to improve the students’communicative competence.
