Cooperative learning,a kind of teaching strategy that is centered with students and takes group activities as its teaching mode,has been universally applied in the education of many countries throughout the world.Our county firstly researched and discussed and put it into use in classroom teaching from the early 1990's.Presently,cooperative learning is booming in elementary and secondary schools,but rare research is conducted to guide secondary vocational oral English teaching.Based on the theory of cooperative learning,this paper takes the students from Class 1402 of a secondary vocational school as the research object and adopts literature method,questionnaire survey and interview to targetedly carry out an oral English teaching experiment.Before the experiment,a pre-oral English test is conducted among the students in Class 1402,and a questionnaire survey is carried out to understand the current situation of oral English teaching of 30 randomly appointed English teachers in the author's school and Yueyang First Vocational and Technical School and the students from two classes taught by the author.It is found that English teachers of secondary vocational school have narrow teaching philosophy and the oral English textbooks for secondary vocational school are obsolete and too difficult for the students.Furthermore,students have problems such as poor English basis,anxiety,and unscientific study methods in oral English learning.Based on these,the author carries out a 18-week teaching experiment on cooperative learning.When the experiment comes to the end,the author makes a post-oral English test and random interview among the students of Class 1402 and collects relevant data and results for analyses.This paper intends to solve 3 problems as follows: 1.current situation and existing problems of oral English teaching in secondary vocational school.2.specific operation of cooperative learning strategy in oral English teaching of secondary vocational school.3.inspiration presented to English teachers of secondary vocational school by conclusions after the cooperative learning teaching experiment.Specific operating steps are as follows: 1.Pre-class preparations,mainly involving collaborative awareness cultivation,group division,topic selection and thinking on the predictive problems of the class;2.Class implementation,involving assignment of team tasks,guidance and regulation of classroom activities,group discussion,within-groupcommunication and scientific evaluation;3.Review and improvement after class;involving feedback collection,finding out the problems and countermeasures and guidance in allusion to the students' problems in group activities.The results of oral English test after the experiment and interview data show that reasonable use of cooperative learning strategy not only stimulates students' interest in learning oral English and alleviates oral English anxiety,but also promotes students' level in pronunciation and intonation,vocabulary,grammar and oral English fluency with the help of team members and teachers.
