Kazak is a typical nomadic ethnic group. And the horse is the most importantmeans of transportation in Kazak people. It is also a kind of production tools andproducts. Therefore, the most Kazakh nomadic people’s lives and the horse areclosely interrelated. The interests of Kazakh people in horses are not confined in hisactual use and practical function, but it is reflected in their spirit, consciousness andculture. At the same time they also very important spiritual wealth, which is the basicstarting point of this research about indigenous knowledge of horses among Kazakpeople in Zhaosu, Xinjiang.Based on field investigation for a period of four months to collect the first handmaterials and documents, related theories and methods of anthropology, ethnology,this paper described reports of indigenous knowledge of horses among Kazak peoplein Zhaosu, including the related knowledge, classification, customs and rituals,entertainment, the understanding of wrangler horse. At the same time, the change anddevelopment of Zhaosu County horse industry is described in a special chapter.This paper is divided into six chapters, the concrete contents are as follows:The first chapter is mainly the research review about ethnology research about“indigenous knowledge of about horses" and "horse industry", and the relevant localknowledge definition of indigenous knowledge related to domestic and foreignscholars defined.The second chapter explains the horse’s classification including the classificationof gender, age, feather, and color through the indigenous knowledge among Kazakpeople in Xinjiang. It also tells about all kinds of characteristics and symbolicmeaning of horse of different varieties through a series of classification.The third chapter mainly interprets the indigenous knowledge about horses,including the understanding of winter wrangler horse, spring wrangler horse andsummer wrangler horse, and related tools and its classification.The fourth chapter is mainly about a series of livestock products from horsesmade by Kazakh people, including the local knowledge of the horse milk and horsesausage, customs and classification with horse milk, and methods of making the horsesausage and its classification.The fifth chapter describes the Kazak people’s etiquettes in Zhaosu with horses,including the exact explanation of the table concentrator etiquette, the horse riding etiquette, the relationship between circumcision and horse, and the introduction of theuse and symbolic significance of the horse on the anniversary of the fallen and theother horse-related recreational activities.The sixth chapter mainly introduces the general situation of horse industrydevelopments in Zhaosu County, also describes the present Zhaosu County Kazakpeople’s understanding of the horse industry and concern over the development trendof the horse industry.This paper describes some understanding of Kazak people in Zhaosu aboutindigenous knowledge about horses in terms of anthropology perspective that theKazakh people’s indigenous knowledge about the horses actually consists of twoaspects. The first aspect and biodiversity are closely interrelated. Second aspects andcultural diversity are closely related. At present, in order to improve the horsebusiness value, Zhaosu County horse industry introduced many foreign breed, yet,"modified" Yili horse with foreign varieties. Whether this relates to the biodiversitycharacteristics, especially the negative impact on genetic diversity, is a worth thinkingand worth researching matter. At the same time, the rapid development of commercialindustry, highlighting the industry’s goal is to achieve and enhance the commercialvalue. Whether this will further intensify the shock of the horse indigenousknowledge among Kazakh people in Zhaosu County which led to the rapiddisappearance of it, is also a problem worthy of study.
