In today’s world, as the economy continues to develop, materialism, hedonism andconsumerism sharp prevalent, traditional values are increasingly difficult to findreal-life relying on, the emergence of the phenomenon of a crisis of faith, moraldecline and with thetas led to a series of ethical issues, especially the moral educationof the young people there are great landslide. This end, countries around the world, inall areas of the school moral education is given a high priority, and a profoundreflection and bold innovation. The United States as a powerhouse of education in theWest, and achieved significant results in the process of implementation of charactereducation in primary and secondary schools, and effective response to the moral crisisin the United States, and effectively improve the students’ level of moral awareness.Although the United States and China have different cultural and historicalbackground, social system and values, but as a co-education of young objects, butshare the same psychological characteristics, so the research has an importantsignificance in the American character education in primary and secondary schools inour country the development of moral education in primary schools has a positivereference value.In addition to the introduction, mainly from the four parts of the Americancharacter education in primary and secondary schools.The first part, the first overview of the theory of character education in primary andsecondary schools, which define the concept of the character, character education andmoral education, and explains the background and theoretical origins of the historicaldevelopment of the American character education in primary and secondary schools.The second part, mainly on the objectives, principles and main content of charactereducation in primary and secondary schools.The third part of character education in primary and secondary schools in theUnited States from practice. Selected the American character education in primaryand secondary schools, several practical cases, including child development programs,"behavior-Reflection" program and the "No Child Left Behind" program instanceargument. The fourth part, combined with the useful experience of the character education inprimary and secondary schools in the United States, made six recommendations to themoral education of primary and secondary school students in China: First, payattention to the absorption of the traditional culture, is keen to cultivate the nationalspirit of the primary and secondary school students, to encourage students to buildcore values combine forces focus on a variety of education, to build social and morallife should revolve around real-life practices, strengthen moral education.
