The present thesis aims at making a comprehensive analysis of the martial arts development inRussia in order to achieve a deeper understanding of them. In the study various research methodshave been applied. Literary sources, interviews, forums, polls, and other scientific literature wereused throughout the research process. At the end of the research process, we are able to draw the following conclusions:First, martial arts in Russia have a very long and interesting history, rooted far back in the past. The development of martial arts is directly related to the state development. Therefore, we cansay that the development of the country and martial arts are interconnected processes of: for astate through the development of martial arts and for martial arts, through the development of thestate.Second, the modern view of martial arts is opposite from what we could observe in the distantpast. Each period of time has its own order; different forms dominate at different periods. Itdepends on our understanding and on the objectives that we pursue doing martial arts. Modernsituation in the country and in the world give us the possibility to look at martial arts fromdifferent angles, to form our own attitude and to understand our own purposes of practicing.According to the survey that was carried out during the research process, we can affrim thatthe goals are very different. Everybody finds in martial arts what they are looking for: self-defense skills, useful and interesting way of spending time, stress relief, spiritual foundations, some are seeking a way which they will follow till the end. This is the uniqueness of the martialarts.Due to the geographical position of Russia between the East and the West, the modern formsof martial arts have a wide range of interaction, and numbering about80types, with around20types being the most popular.Third, every type of martial arts that has developed in our country has had to be approved, first at the societal level, and then at the state level, in order to get the opportunity for furtherdevelopment. Currently martial arts attract a significant interest both of the society as well of thestate, which is beneficial to the development process.Fourth, since the objectives are different, the approaches of teaching martial arts in Russia arealso different. We can distinguish three fundamentally different teaching directions. These aresports direction, the traditional direction, and the individual one. The objectives of theaforementioned approaches are different, and therefore, doing the same kind of martial art, thefollowers (adherents) obtain different results. It would be unsuitable to use words such as thebest result or worse result. In my opinion, such concepts are inappropriate in this area. Martialarts are so unique that we do not have limit for improvement: you can practice them at any age,at any place and at any time. Whether making morning exercises or doing the dishes, wecontinue to improve our skills. The reason for that is that the foundation of all martial arts lies inspirit and soul education. The spirit is primary, the technique is secondary. To summarize, we can say that the world of martial arts in Russia, as in any other country, isvery deep and multifaceted. Martial arts cannot be divided into categories or by country, as well as one cannot fully explore this topic. The words spoken aloud can be understood differently, and also my findings are controversial and ambiguous. While working on this topic and readingworks of many prominent people, communicating with people of different professions(politicians, athletes and ordinary workers), I realized that all things and phenomena areperceived and understood differently by every person. It is typical for any process to rise and fall;understanding this we should move forward, thinking about the best. And no matter how muchbetter you are than your neighbor, it only matters how much better you become yourself. We,Russians, have forgotten much of our history, and martial arts can help us to connect the pastwith the present; studying and developing them, we reach a better understanding of ourselves, and help shape the future.
