Senior high school is a very important period throughout a person’s growth. During thisperiod of time, students are neither children nor adults, but they have the personalities of both.They are full of contradictions at this age. For one thing, they are becoming more and moremature psychologically and physiologically and they are longing for independence, but at thesame time, they are expecting close attention from adults. Students’ self-consciousness ismuch stronger than that of their childhood, and they have already developed a primaryoutlook on the world, life and value. So during this period full of contradictions, therelationship between teachers and students has greater influence on students than parents andfriends.The relationship between teachers and students has a direct effect on the quality ofeducation. To see the degree of the influence, this study was performed. The research wasbased on the relationship between senior high school teachers and students, and the students’academic achievements, together with interview with some teachers and students. On thisbasis, this paper puts forward its idea that the relationship between teachers and studentsshould be developed to improve students’ academic achievements.The235participants of this research are senior high school students from Xuzhou No1.Middle School, Xuzhou No2Middle School, Xuzhou Senior High School and Xuzhou Wangjie Middle School; their relationships with their teachers and their academic achievements areexamined based on the questionnaire. From the results we can see that whether teachers andstudents have close relationships is proportional to students’ academic achievements,especially help and understanding; but dissatisfaction and punishment have a negative effect on their performance, which is not obvious. The effect of teacher-student relationship is alsoproportional to students’ academic achievements, among which leadership and students’ autonomy have a positive effect on students’ academic achievements, but hesitation has a negativeeffect, and strictness has an unremarkable effect.On the basis of the research results, we think that in our practical teaching process,teachers should try hard to understand, help, respect and take care of the students, and at thesame time teachers should work hard to improve ourselves, propose a lifelong learning idea,develop an equal and democratic relationship with students and to create a harmonious and comfortable learning environment. And it is also important for teachers to avoid a negativeeffect on students.
