Morality is not just the target value people yearning for, but more importantly, ithas become an intangible asset which is of great significance to our lives and futuredevelopment. Especially in the period of social transition, with the deeper evolution ofmarketing economy and the diversification of economic way, social organization andthe allocation, a variety of ideas and ideologies impact on people’s moral awareness,and even there exist some negative and wrong ideas contrary to social harmony anddevelopment. The Chinese nation has always been a fine moral traditions. In the longhistory of traditional Chinese culture, each period of dynasty has left a lot ofideological achievements about how to promote moral education outcomes whichplay the important role of enlightenment in today’s society and moral construction.Mencius is a famous Confucian scholar after Confucius and he not only has madeoutstanding contributions at the theoretical level of moral education, but also has aprofound impact on life practice and democratic progress, and even his thoughts canstill be used as a reference in today’s society value.This paper discusses Mencius moral education and its modern valuesthe in thefollowing five aspects. The first part mainly elaborates the specific background ofMencius moral education ideology. Mencius moral education thought is the product ofthe specific historical conditions of the Spring and Autumn Period, which is alsoaffected by the strong Confucian atmosphere, at the same time he is intrinsicallylinked to his geographic location and family background.The second part discusses the theoretical basis of the ideas of Mencius moraleducation. Mencius moral education takes the humanity as a starting point pointingout the approaches and ways of moral education as well as its possibility and reality.This will stimulate the people to pay attention to the morality of ideal, and provides avery rich theoretical resources and practical experience for ideological and politicaleducation in today’s society.The third part introduces the content of Mencius moral education thought includingthe goals, approaches and ways of moral education. This covers the whole process themoral and the entire contents of moral education as a relatively complete moraleducation system. The fourth part reveals the roles and founctions of Mencius moral educationthought including the founctions of social stability and individual self-cultivation.Mencius moral education thought as a partof the whole Confucianism is not onlyconducive to solving social issues, promotoing economic development and humanharmony, but also contributive to individual self-cultivation and enhancing the morallevel.The fifth part analyzes the historical status of the Mencius moral educationthought and its modern values. A scientific attitude should be exerted towardsMencius moral education thought. We must see the positive aspect and admit itsshortcomings and defects. We have to learn something valueable to make a goodcombination with contemporary society so as to enhance the services for theeffectiveness of the contemporary ideological and political education.
