The early period of Republic of China is one of an important stages of Chineseprofessional education development in the20thcentury. Under the co-influence of thewidespread of Western education theories and domestic economic and social development,there came out a booming thinking to achieve economy prosperity and save the nationthrough danger by developing professional education. The typical representatives are HuangYanpei, Yan Yangchu, Tao Xingzhi and Zhang Qian etc.The trend of thought of professionaleducation in the early period of Republic of China inserted a profound influence on thedevelopment of Chinese professional education in the early period of20thcentury, and to acertain degree, formed important foundation on the development and improvement of Chineseprofessional education theory in the20thcentury.The thinking trends of professional education in the early period of Republic of Chinahave their own characters and also have the feature of consistency, which strongly reflect thecharacteristic of “education saves the nation”; are deeply influenced by Western educationthought; and shake off the educational tradition of separating learning from practicing.Although these thinking trends couldn’t save the destiny of China at root as proved by the“education saves the nation” thinking, they are still worthy of recognition and learning inencouraging people to pursue the meaning of education in the practical, civilian andprofessional sense.
