With the popularization of new curriculum standards and education for all-around development, the application-oriented researches and developmentalresearches on physical education have attracted considerable attention. Bysystematically exploring the practice of PE and physical activities, to create newphysical activities, aiming to meet students’ demands for modern physical activitiesand improve students’ physical fitness. PE is an indispensable part of schooleducation, which bears the responsibility for the all-round development of studentsand has a great significance of enhancing people’s health and improving the overallfitness of nationals. The current situations of physical education has a direct link withits development. Therefore, investigating the status of PE has a very importantinfluence on the further development of primary schools.In this paper, teachingobservation is the starting point, observation, documentation, interviews andstatistical methods are applied in an investigation in48elementary schools inUrumqi.The results showed that:1.The teaching plans of PE teacher are formalistic, falling short of newcurriculum standards and the demands of teaching materials.2.(1) PE on curriculum is not ideal and not much intensity.(2)The teachingcontents are single and less interesting.(3) The organization of teaching is poor ineffectiveness.(4) PE teachers could choose the appropriate teaching methods basingon teaching contents and goals.3.The exercise frequency of pupils is low in schools, the teaching anddemonstration often take up too much time. In addition, the exercise frequency isaffected by natural environment, venues and equipment.4. The average amount of exercise is not enough to build up pupils’body.5.There is a large number of potential PE curriculum resources, but the exitingphysical activities seem several removes from the local reality, particularly thetraditional physical activities are often ignored.6. The most pupils have a strong interest in gym class, hoping to improve theirfitness. However, it is hindered by a variety of factors, such as the conditions ofvenues and equipment, the competence of PE teachers and PE curriculums.7. The existing sports venues, facilities and equipment are unable to guaranteethe successful completion of teaching. Especially, the equipment is inefficient andlack of use value.8. There are two striking objective factors have negative impacts on gym class: (1) The local weather conditions are atrocious.(2) A lot of class sizes cannot meet therequirements of some physical activities.
