The Promotion Of Teachers’ Empathy To Students’ Academic Performance

From the standpoint of the students, teachers can express concern to the students; understand their feelings and thoughts, which enable the teachers not only to establish a good relationship in a proper way, but also to create a warm learning ambience in class, so that they can ultimately promote the development of students’ academic and emotional growth. Review the literatures, the teachers’empathy measurement mainly tends to use general measurement methods, such as IRI. According to the situational characteristics, however, researchers have also developed a special measuring tool for teachers, this research intends to use animated narrative vignettes (ANV) to measure teachers’empathy.This research includes two parts:first, make a social simulation of ANV and test104primary and secondary school teachers from "Mental Health Class for A Certificate" of Zhejiang province, the paper will validate the reliability and validity of ANV measurement. Second, the researcher designs schemes to train17primary school teachers to improve their empathy level, which helps to verify whether the improvement of teachers’ empathy can promote the students’ academic performance.The results of this research are as follows:(1) ANV measurement has good validity, as well as the consistency between raters.(2)Teachers who participated in the experimental group, their level of empathy has been significantly improved after the training, that the experimental group had a significant higher level of empathy than that of the teachers of the control group.
