Booker T. Washington is the most famous black leader and black educator in American of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He devoted all his efforts to the progress of Negros, and made great contribution to the development of the Negro education and the progress of the Negros.Booker T. Washington founded the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute in1881, and had made great achievement. His educational practics, social activities and his grow-experience all have intimate connection with the form of his educational thought. This study about Booker T. Washington’s educational thought of this article includes educational aim viewpoint, curriculum viewpoint, teaching viewpoint, moral education viewpoint. Booker T. Washington deems that the aim of education is to cultivate the students to have the ability to adapt the society. Students need to master the necessary skill of living and the essential knowledge, and improve their moral quality. The negro students must achieve their self-help and progress through the education. The curriculum viewpoint of Booker T. Washington pay attention to the connection between school and the social life and the application of students’ knowledge, it also keep a watchful eye on the cultivation of students’moral quality at the same time. On the teaching viewpoint, Booker T. Washington particularly emphasize that the students must learn from their doing. He hopes the students could find problems from the practices, and they could try to search the approach of their problems, ultimately the students could learn how to transform their knowledge into the practical application, In his moral education viewpoint, Booker T. Washington emphasize that the key of students’cultivation of their moral quality is to practice and experience the moral conducts. He prospects very graduate student from the Tuskegee Institute could cultivate the well civilized habits and possess the excellent moral quality, in order to that they will remodeling their image in the whites’eyes.The educational thought of Booker T. Washington as well basic in the needs of the Negros’progress, as is provided with the signets of the times. He attempted to achieve the Negros’self-hope and progress through the vocational education, and assisted the Negros acquire the accumulation of economic basis and the improvement of comprehensive quality. His educational thought think highly of the knowledge application, practices and the connection with the social life, these reflect the times characteristics about the development of American education.
