As the society is moving forward, the purpose of holding sports eventhas been no longer limited for short-term economic profit, instead, theentire event shall be inspected from more comprehensive aspects aboutits all-round impact on cities. Especially seen from the far-reachingimpact of holding events, it is the social impacts made by events oncities that plays an important role during radiating long-termdevelopment process of the entire city. The cognition and attitude ofresidents about social impacts made by events is one of the key factorsof main social activity subjects in event holding place. Survey andanalysis on the cognition and attitude of residents not only are helpfulfor event rules and management by governments and event holders but alsocan protect interests of local residents, driving joint and harmoniousdevelopment of events with cities.In this paper, a research is made on the cognition and attitude ofresidents about social impacts of sports events, mainly including twoparts, namely theory and demonstration. The first part is abouttheoretical basis and method of research, covering the first four chapters.The first two chapters clarified the origin of this paper, introducedand evaluated relevant domestic and foreign researches, explained mainresearch methods of this paper, and defined relevant concepts involvedin this paper. The third chapter explored the developing mechanism ofsocial impacts made by sports event from macro, medium and micro levels,and elaborated potential positive and negative social impacts of sportsevent; the fourth chapter analyzed the developing mechanism of residents’cognition and attitude about social impacts made by sports event andpresented four influential factors leading to different cognition andattitude of residents. The second part is about demonstration contentof this paper; it takes the example of F1Chinese Grand Prix andrespectively surveyed and analyzed the cognition and attitude ofresidents in Yangpu District and Jiading District about F1social impacts;results showed residents living in different distances from thecompetition arena had significant difference in cognition and attitudeof social impacts made by the event; besides, resident groups in JiadingDistrict can be further classified into three kinds, namely negativeindignant ones, neutrals under no influence, and positive supporters;while differences in demographics, interest degree in held games of thesports event, relying degree on event industry, and participation degreeall made significant impact on the cognition and attitude of Jiadingresidents about social impacts made by F1Chinese Grand Prix. Thenstrategies and suggestions corresponding to future development of F1are proposed from the aspect of residents according to survey and researchresults. Finally the sixth chapter is bout conclusion and prospect; it summarized main conclusions of the paper, showed limitations in research,and previewed the future of research.
