homework is an activity with purpose, instruction and organisation.It is beneficial to consolidate and deepen what the students have already learned. Itis also helpful to the development of student skills and mental ability. It’s animportant element for students all round development. Nowadays, the newhomework courses are no longer totally affiliated to the daily classroom activitiesand teaching materials. Every homework assignment should focus on the growingof students knowledge, students grow when the questions are presented and solved.After the constantly using the knowledge and during the mutual impact of theknowledge and skills, the students will grow emotionally and attitudes will developinvaluably. In “New course” theories the homework assignments should be activitybased with sharp pursuit of value, ideal and hope. The attitudes to how studentstreat their homework assignments should become a lifestyle choice outside of theclassroom, in the process the students experience happiness and bitterness of doinghomework. The homework assignments will no longer be a forced burden forstudents, rather, it’s their need of growing by themselves. However, in practice wehave so many inefficient factors. For example, the design of homeworkassignments often has lack of purpose and it’s form is often inflexible. All of theseproblems lead to low quality of the current primary school students homeworkassignments, with the quantity of assignments being either too little or too much, orusing quantity to replace quality. The huge contrast between the quality andquantity leads to a very obvious side effect, hurting the learning initiative of thestudents and harming the physical and mental health of the students. It also affectsthe quality of teaching in the classroom, this is the reason why the quality ofChinese teaching is still at a relatively low level. Consequently, we should urgentlystart with the design of homework assignments, increasing the efficiency of thedesign. Only after fully bringing the student’s learning initiative into play, can weincrease the efficiency of homework design, making the homework an integral partof student’s development. Based on this, this paper first analyses the current condition and meaning ofresearch of primary school Chinese homework assignments. It then sets forth thebasic rules and principles that homework design should obey. In addition whatcharacteristics the homework assignments should acquire and changes in designwill be set out in this paper. In the end, this paper will bring up how these principleshave been put into practice in reality.
