"Sino-British Joint School Curriculum Project" Implementation Study

With the development of globalization and overall improvement of China’s economy, more and more Chinese parents are turning to international education in the hope of raising internationally competitive children instead of following the more traditional approach of taking the Gaokao and applying to a Chinese university. This has created a market for schools that follow international curricula in China. Along with education reform in China, curricula reform becomes the main part. Especially increasing schools that utilize international curricula as the main method to show the traits, attract good students, and help the students to colleges all over the word. But there is no proven model for the schools to use, the schools research themselves and learn-from each other. Hunan Changsha Tongshenghu Experimental School (TSH) is well known for its Sino-British Joint High School Program with Llandrillo College, in partnership since May2004. The thesis uses TSH as a good example to analyse the program methodology. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter introduces the subject background, its significance, and the methods of study. The second chapter focuses on the concepts of the Sino-British Joint High School Program, its components, functions, and the current situations. The final chapters describes and analyzes the Sino-British Joint High School Program in operation at TSH. This is done by looking at the history of the program the present situations,the program’s characteristics, and its achievements. In addition, an analysis of the program’s problems is included as well as a discussion of its future expectations. By combining a study of documents and the author’s own work-experiences, the thesis will summarize the experiences of operating the TSH Sino-British Joint High School Program. This can act as reference material for similar operation in China.At the same time, through the research the author can learn more theories about the operating a program involving international curricula, which will be helpful for her own work...
