| With the further progress of urbanization, a large number of rural labor force transfer to the city, which generates such a huge and disadvantaged children group-the migrant children. Their educational status is increasingly calling attention, one of which is school readiness. The article studies a village in Shanghai and adopts the method of qualitative research to obtain the concept and practice of migrant children’s parents about school readiness, and concludes the characteristics of both concept and practice. Analysis is based on the theory of "patterns of culture" to find the performance of migrant children’s parents living in the culture of floating population and discuss the influence of this particular culture.According to the study, parents consider learning and living skills the most important things in children’s school readiness, because these two skills are not only related to daily life, but also the future of their children. Thus migrant children are trained frequently to learn and take care of themselves better as essential abilities by their parents. However not all the concepts lead to practical action. Parents must take the whole family into account and also ensure that children themselves can transition to primary school successfully. Then they can make a decision. It’s a reasonable choice of joint contributions of the floating population’s characteristic and the social and cultural environment. Finally, several ways of support are provided. |
