Language textbooks are the main learning material as well as the most direct andeffective input medium for the language learners. The compilation of the English languagetext books should not only follow the general principles of text book design, but also payattention to some special language features of English. The thesis just takes the mostimportant learning material for the native English learners--textbook as the study sample,and makes a detail and deep research both quantitatively and qualitatively by studymethods of Literature retrieval、Comparison、Case study and Data statistics. The thesismainly based on the good effects that textbooks make for the students, mainly exploringhow the compilation of this series of textbooks contribute to improving the students`language capabilities with the hope of helping to develop the construction of ChineseEnglish textbooks and putting forward to improving the students`English level widely.This thesis has the important both theoretical and practical significance. Intheoretically speaking, this thesis takes the perspective of taking English as the foreignlanguage. It will make little contribution to the study blank of the less connection betweennative English and foreign language by taking the native English textbook as a studysample with the purpose of providing enlightenment for the construction of ChineseEnglish textbooks. In practically speaking, the main study purpose of the thesis is toexplore how the sample textbooks make contribution to getting English languageknowledge and improving students`language competences, in this case, maybe it can offeranther way in English study and teaching.The thesis conveys at lest the following three innovation points: firstly, innovation ofstudy topic choosing. Based on the interview of the literature in analysis English textbooksboth in Chinese and aboard, we may easily find that the study of English native textbooksin the perspective of taking English as the foreign language rather than native languagewith the purpose of providing enlightenment for our English textbook construction ismainly a blank in study. Secondly, innovation of study sample choosing. In the thesis, theauthor chose the latest edition of the English native textbooks in primary school---Reading Wonders, which were compiled according the first national wide curriculumstandards—Common Core State Standards of America. Thirdly, innovation of studycontents and purpose, the author begin the study with the analysis of the compilefoundation of the sample textbooks, and made a deep and entire analysis for the languageknowledge system、language skill system and the pragmatic effects for students andcultural awareness, then, concluded the design features of Reading Wonders and theenlightenment that provides for English text book design in China.This thesis mainly makes efforts to overcome the following two questions:1. How theEnglish native textbook design contributes to improve students`English languagecompetence?2. What enlightenments this English native textbooks can provides to us?The thesis divided into the following five chapters, and the third and the forth chapterwhich are about the analysis of language knowledge and language skills individually arethe main parts. Chapter1is introduction. In this chapter, the author mainly talks about thethesis`s study reason、purpose and significance, reviews the relative study literatures in andabroad, defines some study items of this thesis, states the theoretical foundation of studyand introduces the study methods and samples. The second chapter gives a detail analysisof the design basis of Reading Wonders, which is the first Common Core States Standardsof America. The third chapter is the analysis of language knowledge system whichinvolves detail and meticulous analysis of the phonics module、vocabulary module、textmodule and grammar module from the following three aspects, which are components、presenting form and presenting sequence individually, and it also analyzes theenlightenment for English textbook design in China. Being similar to the third chapter,chapter four also analyzes the language skill system of Reading Wonders from the threeaspects we mentioned above in depth, especially the compilation of reading and writingmodule, and summarizes the design features and shining points of them to inspire thetextbook design of reading and writing modules in our country. In the last chapter, theauthor concludes briefly some shining points of this series of textbooks in a macroscopicview, and also points out the shortcomings of the study as well as the expectation for thefuture study, hoping that the later relative study can move much further.
