Language recitation input has been one of the most important methods in language learning in China for more than hundreds of years. However, in today’s China, a majority of senior high school students and even a few English teachers regard it as a time-wasting, obsolete and even totally useless English learning method. For the past few years, the New English Curriculum Standard advocates to enhance the high school students’ real capability of English such as oral English and written English。A large number of experts and scholars have made lots of researches on the approaches of English writing teaching in high school, and the results of them showed the popular approaches are not that ideal.Based on the theories of language input and output, the present study aims to explore the three principal research questions as follows:1) What are the high school English teachers and students’attitudes toward the application of recitation input to their daily English teaching and learning?2) What are the effects the recitation input has on the English writing ability of high school students?3) Can recitation input improve English writing exam scores of high school students? If so, why?The results of the study show that recitation input does help improve the high school learners’ English language application ability. It can help high school students enlarge vocabulary, master grammar, know sentence structure, reduce spelling errors better and faster, and comprehensively improve the students’ English writing ability. Considering the above, recitation input teaching and learning approach should be paid much more attention to in high school English teaching to help the students improve their English writing ability.
