Chinese traditional family creed was produced in ChunQiu dynasty, and through more than two thousand years of development, reached to its climax in Ming and Qing Dynasties, then went downhill. Ming and Qing family percepts were one important part of Chinese traditional family creed, which rose to a new peak and had a distinctive character, on the basis of sucking out all the marrow of the former family creed and absorbing advanced ideas at that time. As one of the extremely valuable cultural and educational heritage of the history of Chinese family education, The family admonish document in Ming and Qing Dynasties was worthy of our learning and studying.This paper is based on historical data by literature research, and take family creed in Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object. It combed the thought of family management, morality cultivation and scholarship seeking detailedly. Through the above research, hope to make a growing contribution to the present family education.This paper is mainly divide into six parts:Part1:the introduction. It firstly summarized the research situation. Then explained the purpose and significance of the study, the research methods, and the innovation and the shortage.Part2:this part made a basic introduction of the traditional family creed,then it focused on the different presentation of the two development periods of the family admonish document in Ming and Qing dynasties, and analyzed causes of this. The golden age was from the early Ming dynasty to the middle of Qing dynasty. In the later Qing dynasty, the family percepts mainly were on its decline, but partly innovation.Part3:this part analyzed the thought of family management in Ming and Qing family creed. Their thought of managing a household mainly included human realations and get wealth. A family shoud have harmonious relationship of fathers and sons, brothers, and husband and wife. People also need to develop a good habit of thrift and get benefit by honest and legal means.Part4:it introduced the idea of morality cultivation in Ming and Qing family creed. In ancient time, it was widely believed that to have a high-spirted moral cultivation was the basis of regulating a family and ruling the state, which not only deeply affected one’s but also the whole family’s development prospects. To promote the personal morals, we should follow some principle, such as introspected oneself day by day, respected others from the bottom of heart, committed acts of kindness, kept calm, been faithful and honest and pursued kindhearted.Part5:this part summed up the concept of doing scholarly research in Ming and Qing family precepts. Learning can help people to cultivate their morality and enter into official career, so it had always been attentioned by academic scholars. To set up long-ranged aspirations and goals was the foundation of research. If there is no great ambitions, there is no success. In the learning process, a number of important principles and methodologies should be followed:children should be taught at his early stage; student should treasure every moment to learn; and people should learn knowledge step by step, study earnestly and think carefully, concentrate their efforts on reading, and review what had been learned frequently. The main content of study was The Four Books (The Great Learning, The Doctrine of the Mean, The Confucian Analects, and The Works of Mencius) and The Five Classics (The Book of Songs, The Book of History, The Book of Changes, The Book of Rites and The Spring and Autumn Annals). According to the students personal natural endowments and interests,children can also learn The lament and poem and Fu,or only study one Classic.Part6:on the basis of the study of Ming and Qing dynasties family motto, and aimed at the problem in the modern family education, this part put forward some excellent ancient educational experience, which was worthy of being learnt by us today. For instance, children should start moral education as soon as possible, been morality-rooted, developed a good habit of industrious and thrifty, inherited some good learning methods.The study showed that:although Ming and Qing family precepts has certain historical limitations, there’s still much good experience in family education was worthy of learning. Family precepts in the Ming and Qing dynasties were the priceless heritage of the educational history of China and the world, we should make a research and learn from it.
