The training of students’ independent reading ability, is the seventh requirement presented at the beginning of the new curriculum standard target promulgated In the year Of2001. Then in each presentation of the goal in all the stages of reading goal, about17"own " words have been used to emphasize the cultivation of students’ ability in reading, judgment, experiencing, thinking, perception, evaluation, appreciation, aesthetics. Lastly, in the advice for teaching reading comprehension, it has been highlighted that reading is students personal behavior so teachers should respect the students’ individual behavior, not to replace the students’ independent reading practice with teachers’ analysis. Under the guidance of this idea, in this thesis it is thought that in order to cultivate students’ independent reading ability in an effective way, skimming teaching, according to the properties of half independent reading in the texts for skimming, can not be carried on by training and promoting students’ independent reading ability. Even dealing with an extensive reading as intensive reading with a good intention also equals ignoring or rough treating it, because it is inefficient, invalid and even has a negative effect.The first chapter, by analyzing the reasons for inefficiency in skimming teaching, puts forward a proposal to remove inefficiency and negative effect in teaching extensive reading. Constructing the strategies for cultivating students’ independent reading ability and improve the teaching efficiency is an important subject in front of us. The purpose of the practice of quality-oriented education and new curriculum requirements is for the need of all-round development of people.Analysis of the necessity of skimming teaching in chapter second, that the main causes of skimming teaching in teachers on curriculum, shallow understanding, functional properties, to skim the text understanding is incorrect, and in teaching. But the new curriculum reform requires the effective teaching of skimming, from psychology, reading, constructivism, the theory of effective teaching, found the skimming teaching to cultivate students’ independent reading ability, is not only the requirements of the new curriculum reform, need of the development of education, teacher development, more is to students the spiritual promotion.The third chapter analyzes the necessity of effective teaching strategy of skimming reading and holds that the causes of skimming teaching inefficient are that the key factor that lies in the teacher’s professional accomplishment. The teachers are required to refine their work, to become effective teachers in lesson preparation, class reflection, and summary of improving teaching skills. Education departments must strengthen teachers’ training to promote the renewal of conceptions, change teaching mode, and construct skimming teaching evaluation mechanism to promote the effectiveness of teaching extensive reading.Chapter Four makes comments on the examples of the teaching of skimming reading and holds that in order to cultivate the students’ independent reading ability, the effective teaching, think to want to, classroom teaching must be learning goals and learning situation, learning tasks and interests, organizational learning rule, evaluation of learning rule, reflective learning efficiency, teaching serves learning, teaching for the school, which teaches to encourage, praise and other measures, to stimulate learning motivation and need, but not follow run; teach effectively, in order to ensure the effective independent learning to read.The fifth chapter summarizes the shortcomings of reflection and inquiry, and proposes forward to build quality and efficient skimming teaching mode.
