With the accelerating process of the globalization and integration of the world, the relations between China and the world is further strengthened, this trend of social development raises a new claim for our education. It is necessary to develop education for international understanding in order to cultivate the citizens’ global vision and international communication abilities. The concept of education for international understanding also chimes in with the current national curriculum reform, which highlights the necessity of education for international understanding in China’s elementary education. English, as a special subject, is mixed with the multicultural contacts and conflicts, therefore, to strengthen education for international understanding in English teaching is conducive to the all-round development of education for international understanding, is also more important to improve the current English teaching and students’ learning interest.To synthesize the relevant research achievements on the education for international understanding and the current status of English teaching in junior middle school in Anshan, this paper is trying to conclude the problems of current English teaching in junior middle school and to reflect the deficiencies of education for international understanding and to propose the corresponding solution strategies. The thesis is divided into four parts:firstly, analyses the current situation and the main problems of English teaching in junior middle school in Anshan, introduces the main purpose and thought of this thesis; secondly, synthesizes the relevant research achievements from both China and overseas on education for international understanding and introduces the connotation, development and application of education for international understanding; thirdly, combined with the corresponding requirements for international understanding proposed in the national "English curriculum standard", analyses the education for international understanding’s function and significance in English teaching in junior middle school; at last, combined with the practical situation, put forward feasible strategies and methods of strengthening the education for international understanding in junior middle school English teaching practice, including:improvement of teachers culture quality; excavation content of the text to develop education for international understanding; use of rich resources, improvement of the efficiency of the classroom; improvement of evaluation system; culture and the extracurricular activities.
