From the 20 century, with the development of the economy, People spend more time on communicating and cooperating with each other. How to understand and respect the people who have the different background is a main value in the new time. The Education for International Understanding appear in the background and English, as a universal language bear the main responsibility of the education. Senior high is a main stage for forming the right life and social values. The aims of carrying out the English teaching in senior high English teaching is not only introducing the knowledge to the students, but develop their abilities about how to get on well with and cooperate with the people from other countries. What’s more, the related education should focus on helping the students care and respect other cultures and become successful citizens with high international ability.There are five farts of the essay.The first part of the thesis shows the basic information about the topic of the essay. The background information is included in this part. The meaning of the study is completing the theories of the International Understanding and helpful for educating the “universal citizens”, what’s more, it is beneficial for achieving the teaching goals of it in senior high English teaching. The last part focuses on how to carry out the study and the methods used in the process of the study.The second part present the meanings of the International Understanding and the Education of the International Understanding. In addition, it includes the three stages of the development of Education of the International Understanding. That is the first stage of carrying out the Education of International Understanding; the reforming stage of its development and the third stage is the fast development.The third part discusses the problems of English teaching in senior high school on the Education for International Understanding. There are mainly four aspects. English teachers focus more on teaching language points, developing students’ ability and skills of taking exams and the texts, while pay less attention to how to make some useful measures of achieving the aims of the education in senior high. Based on the analysis of the problems, the third part explains the reasons of these problems in senior high school’ English teaching. The English teachers have low sense of Education for International Understanding and most of them are deeply influenced by the idea that English is only a tool, there is no culture in the language. In addition, under the heavy pressure of Chinese Gao Kao, the teachers only fix their attention on how to raise the scores.The forth part discusses the measures about how to successfully carry out the Education for International Understanding. Firstly we should raise the teachers’ awareness of International Understanding. Secondly, teachers are supposed to edit useful text books on Education for International Understanding. Effective methods should be used in English Teaching to help develop students’ skills of living harmoniously with different people with various cultures. Schools should provide more activities for students and more chances to expose students to various cultures. International Department should be full used to carry out Education for International Understanding.The last part is mainly about the conclusion of the study and raise some related questions for us.
