With the gradually thorough and further development of the new curriculum reform, educators and English teachers in China have made great progress in the research on cooperative learning. At present, the theoretical research about cooperative learning is rich, but the relevant empirical research is relatively weak. Frankly speaking, cooperative learning strategy is not widely used in classes, the traditional teaching method still plays a main role, and there still exists many puzzles on the application of Cooperative Learning in English teaching for the English teachers. On this basis, an empirical study is made on the application of cooperative learning in English classrooms in junior middle school. This paper systematically find problems, and then solve the problem in the process of the empirical study, it attempts to provide some inspiration for the application of cooperative learning in junior high school English teaching.The study was carried out in two parallel classes of Grade Two in NO.1. Middle School of Pan jin (a city in the southwest of Liaoning province). The participants were randomly assigned to two experimental conditions:participants in the experimental group which they used cooperative learning in English classes; participants in the control group which they learned English with the traditional method.The experiment lasted for ten months. Both quantitative data and qualitative data were collected. The researcher adopted the following means including interviews interview for English teachers, questionnaire for the experimental group and English ability tests (pre-test and post-test). At last, using the SPSS, statistical analysis shows that the post-test result of the experimental group is obviously higher than the result of the control group. There is significant difference between the two groups.In addition, this study also gives further analysis of the roles of the teacher and students, classifies cooperative learning in junior high school English teaching process, and provides the corresponding solutions for the problems encountered in the cooperative learning.The result of this study shows that, cooperative learning can improve the teaching efficiency in English classes, it has a very positive impact on cultivation the English ability of junior high school students.The significant improvement shows that, from the students’ perspective, their accuracy, concentration, efficiency and the interest of English are enhanced by cooperative learning. Students’ English ability can get prompted as well.In addition, cooperative learning is to cultivate the students’ teamwork and communication skills, students can actively participate in the learning process.While using the cooperative learning, there are great changes in teachers’teaching concept, the student-centered class can come true, the students can become masters of the classroom. |
