This study briefly introduced the play characteristics of normal preschool children, reviewed and combed the related research on autism children’s play, and observed the play of kindergarten children with autism. Based on these, the study was conducted. This study aims to explore the features of play in kindergarten children with autism, inclusive the features in preference of play activities, in the type of play, in different play environment, in the age, in different disorder extent. In order to enrich the research of children with autism in play, and instruct the play activities of them effectively, as well as it can provide the instruction of theory.By depth observation in the field, this paper carried out30days observational study on14preschool autistic children in play activities, whose average physiological age was4.8years old. And there was an interview for the relevant12kindergarten teachers. The results revealed that:1. The preschool autistic children had a preference to the solitary-practical play and parallel-practical play. These play activities had some clear features that were repeatable operation, predictable results, simple game plot, fixed order, the pursuit of physical pleasure, low creative; and the play activities less need or not need language communication and social skills.2. The features of play in preschool children with autism in cognitive type could be drawn:they played more practical games, then for constructive play, at least for symbolic play. However,57.1%preschool children with autism could be engaged in constructive play and symbolic play, but the frequency of occurrence was low. The observed play activities in preschool children with autism were full of practice.3. The features of play in preschool children with autism in social type could be drawn: they played more solitary games, then for parallel play, at least for collective play. However, there were78.5%and64.3%preschool children with autism could be engaged in parallel play and collective play. And they showed a greater fun in parallel play and collective play, but the initiative to participate in collective play was low.4. About the play environment preferences, the preschool autistic children were very fond of practical play outdoor.5. The age of preschool autistic children as the independent variable had not a significant impact on the occurrence rate of play. 6. The disorder extent of preschool autistic children as the independent variable had a significant impact on constructive play and symbolic play, parallel play and collective play, but not a significant impact on practical play and solitary play.The results of this research show that the development of play in preschool autistic children have lagged behind normal children, but also show their own characteristics. Issues about play in autistic children were discussed. In addition, the direction of future research was also highlighted.
