Play behavior, also known as game behavior,is an intrinsic motivational activity of children and an important way to promote children's interaction with their peers and their surroundings.Play behavior is crucial to the development of children.Clinical observations have found that autistic children's play behaviors are characterized by preferring systematic toys, single way of playing, and lacking of dress-up behavior, but so far they have not systematically studied their play behavior. This study aims to explore possible causes and influencing factors by systematically analyzing features of autistic children's play behavior. This study investigates their play behavior through three experiments:toy selection, play style, and peer interaction in playing, the results showed that:(1)Children with autism, both of boys and girls, prefer systematic toys in the choice of*toys, while typically developing boys prefer systematic toys and typically developing girls prefer empathetic toys;(2)Children with autism also have their own characteristics when they play. When a child with autism building stocks, the erection mode is mostly extending horizontally or vertically upwards. The constructed works are relatively simple, mostly one-dimensional plane graphics and having no social significance. When using building blocks for enclosing tasks, works of the typically developing children or children with mental disabilities are often loosely enclosed, while the works of children with autism are often tightly enclosed. After interventionists give placement requirements, children with autism can be quickly placed according to the rules, but their ability to explore rules is weak.(3)Children with autism have less interaction with peers during playing, and there are certain differences in interactions with peers of normal children. When interacting with systematic toys, the time and frequency of interactions with peers are more than when interacting with empathetic toys.Based on the above findings, the investigators explored the characteristics of autistic children's play behavior and the related factors that influence the play behavior, and proposed the following suggestions based on the experimental research process and results:(1)Children with autism prefer to systemize toys.Teachers provide more systematic toys to attract their attention;(2)Children with autism have relatively single ways to build blocks, but they have good imitation skills,so they can provide corresponding graphical references during the construction of blocks.(3)Using systematic toys as a vehicle to guide and encourage autistic children to promote peer interaction. When autistic children have common interests with their peers during playing, their peer interactions will also increase.
