Inquiry teaching is an effective teaching mode suitable for biology education in junior middle school, which has been advocated by the "Biology Curriculum Standards", but biology teaching practice has shown that it is very difficult to be completely fulfilled in recent years. To apply inquiry teaching in teaching practice smoothly and completely, scientific, effective, and class situation-specific class teaching method or teaching design is required, and specific inquiry teaching mode that is suitable for a research content is also required. These will depend on research products of closely integrating teaching theory and long-term teaching practice.To improve the effectiveness of inquiry teaching, this study employed theory of education and teaching in biology class of inquiry teaching by combining our biology teaching practice and research results of experimental teaching in recent two years. This study has the following research parts: employment basis of inquiry teaching on biology education of junior middle school, as well as teaching design and model of inquiry teaching. The methods used in this study have case-control study method, observation method, questionnaire method, interview method and case research method.After experiment, general situation of biology study, study score, and ability of inquiry are better in case group than in control group. After listening during whole class, first-class teachers regarded that in this study self-improvement teaching design and "two directions"(three dimension teaching objective direction and leaning direction of teacher) are effective. Our results showed:(1)in the employment basis of inquiry teaching, it is very important to use various teaching methods based on specific environmental situations, e.g., teacher should divide students according their learning potential for the obvious key and difficult teaching contents;(2)for the inquiry teaching design and inquiry teaching model, we should have the following ideas in mind:â‘ teaching design and teaching model should serve for completion of teaching goal;â‘¡the leading factor for success of teaching design and teaching model should believe students adequately;â‘¢the goal of developing teaching design and teaching model is for development of every student. It will improve the effectiveness of inquiry teaching if we can fulfill the above two items.The study has the following three innovations:(1)in the cooperative grouping teaching, this study proposed a grouping method of considering potential and interest of student, and exploring how teachers collect and arrange data of enquiry teaching based on special teaching contents for the school-host students;(2) the study proposed some ideas the teachers should consider in the teaching design and teaching model;(3)the author first proposed the "two guides" teaching model, which has been tested in the teaching practice, have been considered a effective teaching model, and is suitable for guiding the practice of inquiry teaching in junior middle school biology.In conclusion, this study suggested that scientific and effective class teaching method, teaching design and teaching model can rapidly improve the effectiveness of inquiry teaching in junior middle biology education.
