Shandong province is the first biggest province of aging population in China, and it is alsothe birthplace for the education for the aged. Problem of the education industry for the aged hasalready started to put on the agenda, along with the continual improvement of the socialeconomy and people’s living standard, and the rapid development of the aging process.Education of the aged is the education for the old people, whose educational object includesthe accurate senior citizens aged50to59. Purpose of this education is to meet the demand forold people’s absorbing knowledge, enterprising, keeping healthy and happy, as well as promising,make the old people have better learning and life. However, it is different from adult education,adult education is in order to improve the knowledge, scientific and technological standard andmoral cultivation of the adults, make better contribution to the society; while the education of theaged regards making the old people live better as its main purpose, it is also a process of makingold people still be socialized. Education industry for the aged refers to the teaching, recreationalservices which make the old people as the primary object, also with a series of productive,manufactured and educational activities that the relevant organizations carry out.Education industry for the aged can be divided into financial allocation, old people at theirown expense, enterprise support, and social support according to the sources of the funds.Among them, the financial allocation include the university education and distance education forthe old people according to the service types; enterprise and socially supportive educationinclude the same educations as the financial allocation education besides the social education forthe old people; the education that old people at their own expense include the same educations asthe enterprise and socially supportive education besides the self-education for the old people. Onthe other hand, the education industry for the aged can be divided into the university education,distance education, self-education and social education according to the model of teaching.Products of this kind of education can be mainly divided into books, magazines, videos, teachingmaterials, excellent courses and so on.This article based on the old education institutions in Shandong province as the mainresearch object. It analyzes on the elderly education industry’s segmentation, categories, product lines, the main survivor, concentration ratio, vertical integration, diversification, value chain,barriers to entry and exit, life cycle, and the size of the market by understanding of thebackground and current situation of the development of aged education in our province. Analyzecombining with the questionnaire’s data, finding the existing problems of the aged education inShandong province, to determine further the development countermeasure for the aged education,in order to achieve aged education unified planning and overall coordination in the wholeprovince, resource integration and optimization, realizing the government and enterprise runschools together, providing some advice for the aged education get into the market economy.Hoping that it can provide some referable advice and enlightens for the long-run developmentand its policy orientation of the aged education in our province.
