It is universally accepted that textbook is the carrier of the teaching organizationand fulfillment. It is significant to choose a kind of textbook to carry out the teachingobjectives. Go for it is the most widely used junior middle school textbook in Chinaafter the issue of the new English curriculum standard. Since it is not very long to useGo for it, there are still kinds of comments and arguments raised by junior middleschool teachers. Therefore, it is quite necessary to analyze Go for it by referring to thetheories and principles of the Communicative Instruction Theory, in order that it canbe utilized efficiently in the future teaching.This paper firstly elaborates on the essence of Communicative InstructionTheory concerning its theoretical origins, its principles and characteristics forclassroom teaching. Then it summarizes the theoretical support of this thesis. Thewhole thesis is centered on three research questions:1) How does Go for it conformto the principles of the Communicative Instruction Theory?2) In what way, is Go forit in accordance with the New English Curriculum Standard?3) To what degree doteachers follow the communicative principles in using Go for it?After analysis, the paper draws the conclusion: Go for it embodies the basicideas of Communicative Instruction Theory and it meets the needs of the EnglishCurriculum Standard. It gives consideration to the learning of both communicativefunctions and language structures. But the textbooks also need improvement in therevised edition. As for the teachers, they should make best use of the advantages andbypass the disadvantages of the textbook when using it.
